
Dr Michael Alexander de Percy
Biography
Dr Michael de Percy FRSA FCILT MRSN is a political scientist, commentator, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Telecommunications and the Digital Economy. A graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon, he serves on the Australian Research Council’s College of Experts and the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery, writes a weekly column for The Spectator Australia, and appears fortnightly on Spectator Australia TV.
Michael holds a PhD in Political Science (Australian National University), a Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons) (University of Canberra), and a Bachelor of Arts (Deakin University). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT) and Chairman of its ACT and Southern NSW Chapter, and a Member of the Royal Society of NSW (MRSN)
Additionally, he serves on the board of the Telecommunications Association (TelSoc), is a full member of the National Press Club of Australia and the Australian Nuclear Association, and received the Royal Australian Artillery Prize from the Royal Military College, Duntroon.
Michael’s research explores comparative politics, historical institutionalism, government-business relations, and policy in transport, telecommunications, energy, and leadership. His recent works include Australia in the Atomic Age (Melbourne University Press, 2024), COVID-19 and Foreign Aid (Routledge, 2023, with Viktor Jakupec and Max Kelly), and Road Pricing and Provision (ANU Press, 2018, with John Wanna). His articles appear in journals such as Policy Studies, Journal of Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, and Australian Journal of Social Issues.
His expert commentary has been published in The Australian, Lowy Institute's The Interpreter, ABC's The Drum, The Canberra Times, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, Crikey, The Spectator Australia, and The Conversation.
